Has Today Added to the Quality of my Life?

As I sit here typing, in my comfy green sweatshirt and red "Life is Good" pajama pants, I look back on the day and think to myself, "How has today added to the quality of my life?" Hmmm, well, I got some office work and research done, cleaned the house up a bit, and got the kids to and from school. Okay, so maybe at first glance that's not a very promising list! As I sip my chamomile tea, I investigate this a bit further. Well, does it have to be something big? Or, is small okay? Did I actually improve the quality of my life today?

Okay, so I got some necessary daily tasks done that help our family overall, but what about a deeper quality? Well, let's see... on the 7 minute ride home from school, my daughter and I got to spend a few minutes alone together chatting about some fun teenage kind of stuff. Just those few minutes of closeness each day help to shape our relationship. I can choose to use that time to nag her about homework, her day, or her messy room, OR I can choose to breathe, take a few moments to connect with her, and have a little fun sharing our lives.

Yes, today added to the quality of my life & my daughter's life, by choosing kindness and genuinely sharing a few precious moments with my little girl.

  1. Often there are extradoniary events that occur in the ordinary. The key is to know how to look for them and in that is all the difference

  2. Thanks for that reminder. :) Sometimes I nag Maya about her homework in the car. And sometimes it makes sense, because there are things she can do while we're still at school that once we leave, can't get done. But if that's not the case on that day, or if I can find another way to deal with that issue, I'd rather take that time to connect if I can.
